Head Coach - Age Group Water Polo, 16U & 18U Boys Water Polo

Duje Grubisic’s water polo career began in Croatia, where he played professional water polo, starting at the age of sixteen, and had the immense opportunity of being coached by some of the best water polo coaches in the world. Duje then landed a full water polo scholarship at Concordia University where he was voted most valuable player and earned all-American honors, three years in a row. After his undergraduate work, he was offered a graduate scholarship and while earning his Master’s Degree also landed a position as a graduate assistant coach for the men’s water polo team at Concordia. Additionally, Duje has been recognized as the captain of every water polo team he has been a part of.

Coach Sebastian was born and raised in Colombia, South America. Sebastian’s love for swimming began at a very young age when his mother taught him to swim. Sebastian began teaching learn to swim classes at 14 years old in Colombia. When he was 10 years old Sebastian earned a place on the State team in three different sports; european hand ball, volleyball, and water polo. When Sebastian was offered a spot on the Colombian National Team for water polo, he decided then to focus solely on aquatics. At age 15 Sebastian had the opportunity to represent Colombia’s master team, and was able to travel to countries such as Mexico and Brazil. He also swam for his high school, specializing in butterfly and freestyle events. He graduated from Salazar Y Herrera High School in 2003. Furthering his water polo career, at 17 Sebastian took the opportunity to play for Botafogo in Brazil for three months on their honor division.

At 19 years old Sebastian moved to the US and enrolled in American River College in Sacramento, CA. Here, he learned English and he continued studying the science behind swimming and attended the State Championships in 2007 and 2008. Sebastian transferred schools and moved to Irvine, CA. He was awarded a dual sports scholarship for water polo and swimming. He was named captain of the water polo team. In 2011 Sebastian competed in the Nationals and was part of the 200 freestyle relay that won 7th place. In 2012 Sebastian graduated from Vanguard University with a degree in business and administration with an emphasis in marketing.

Coach Sebastian has been a friendly, familiar face around Irvine pool for 10 years, His goal is to provide his groups with similar opportunities he was able to experience during the 20 plus years of his career.


10U Mixed and High School Water Polo

Coach Tijmen Egtberts was born and raised in The Netherlands. He started playing competitive water polo at the age of 8. His talent got recognized at Santa Rosa Junior College where he played for two years and was added to the coaching staff for one year as well. Tijmen continued his education at Concordia University where he played water polo for one year and was Senior Captain of the swim team his final year. He graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in sports management. He also has a Master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration. As a coach, Tijmen has 12 years of experience and in 2017 he coached a 10U team that won the gold division at NJO’s, in 2019 his team got 3rd place and in 2021 Tijmen coached both 10u girls and 10u mixed to become national champions. That was the first time in usa waterpolo history two teams from the same club won JOs at the 10u level.


Red Group Head Coach

Coach Nacinda was born and raised in The Netherlands. She comes from a family of athletes: her mom played basketball on the national team and her dad was a cyclist, runner, and a soccer player. She has been swimming competitively since she was 5 years old and made it to Dutch Nationals several times. Her family was part of creating
their own club back in 2009 and it grew out to be one of the best swim teams The Netherlands currently has. In 2014, she came to the US where she competed for OCC. She won the State Championships with her team in 2016. Here she also got 3rd place in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. She completed her swimming career at

Concordia University Irvine on a scholarship Concordia on swim scholarship where she briefly held the school record in the 100 IM. Academically she isn’t sitting still either. Coach Nacinda has her BA in Business Data Analytics and an MBA in Marketing. She’s currently at Pepperdine University working on her Master’s in Clinical Psychology. Her
coaching career started at the Deerfield Bluefins where she has been on the coaches staff since 2017. She joined Patriot Aquatics in 2019 and loves to pass the enjoyment for swim and competing to the young ones!


Coach Manon was born in Rambouillet, France and moved to the United States at the age of 4. Since being in the States, she has lived in the Tustin and Irvine areas. She attended Beckman High School and recently graduated in 2019. While attending Beckman, she swam Junior Varsity all four years of her high school career. She also played JV water polo her junior year and Varsity her senior year. Manon was co-captain of her water polo team senior year and contributed to their teams first Pacific Coast League win in Beckman history. Since graduating, Manon has been attending Santiago Canyon College with a major in mathematics, with hopes of transferring to the University of California, Irvine in two years. During her time at Patriot Aquatics, Manon has Head Coached age group swim and assisted in 12/14U Girls Water Polo and 14U Boys Water Polo. She is currently the Head Coach of the 12/14U Girls Water Polo team. On her free time, Manon likes to go to the beach, create art, and read.


ABC Learn To Swim

Coach Hannah started playing water polo when she was 7 years old and played through SoCal from that age until she was 18. She also was a four-year varsity letter at Foothill High School, during her time at Foothill they made it to CIF
finals two years in a row. She then was recruited to play at Azusa Pacific University. She did play all four years but due to the unfortunate COVID 19 shutdown her last two seasons of water polo were cut short but she did end her water polo career as a Division II All-American First Team in 2021. She graduated after four years with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. She has been coaching children in water polo skills and development since she was in high school and she has been coaching children on how to swim as well as proper swim techniques since she was around 13 years old. She has been a Patriot coach since she graduated college in 2021, she was also the assistant
coach for the Beckman Varsity Women’s Team during the 2021 water polo season.


White Team

Coach Amanda began swimming as a toddler and swam for several different USA swimming teams in OC and Chicago. She also swam varsity all 4 years of high school and was named Captain her senior year. Coach Amanda started her coaching career in 2008 as a learn-to-swim coach in Chicago. Amanda has been a USA swim coach in Irvine since 2014. In 2020 Amanda graduated from CSUF with a degree in Geography. She has since been working for Tustin Unified School District as a Para educator for K-12 and has been an Assistant Coach for Patriot Swim Club.


Blue Team

She has about a year of team coaching with SoCal aquatics as well as private coaching experience with all levels. She is USA swim coach certified, CPR, First AID, AED, and lifeguard certified. She has been a competitive swimmer for over 12 years and currently swimming as a freshman for Concordia University Irvine. She swam under Mission Viejo Nadadores from the age of 5-6, Irvine Novaquatics from the age 6-16, and SoCal Aquatics from the age of 17-18. She also swam at the varsity level at Villa Park High School for all 4 years she attended the school.

She loves working with children and teaching them, they brighten my day and she hopes to help them as much as she is capable of doing. Her goal is to continue working with children as a coach throughout college, helping them learn about not only swimming but themselves and lessons of life. With her degree in Ministry Leadership and minor in Communications she plans to plant and improve children’s and youth ministries making them safe and encouraging for children.


White Team

Current Bachelor of Business Administration Student Athlete at West-cliff University. Coach Mark, is a member of the men’s water polo squad. At American River College, he recently completed two AA degrees. He won 7 league titles and 3 cup titles during his 15 years of water polo in Hungary, and was invited to the 16 and under international team. He signed his first professional deal with a first-division squad after turning 18, and he played for them for two years. Then he moved to the United States to study at American River College, where he was a member of the Water Polo and Swim teams. He has a natural desire to become one of the fastest water polo players, he enjoys competing, and teaching is a great way for him to pass on his expertise to future generations.



HS Senior Team

Joao Mescolote is a former LSU Tiger and Brazilian Federation swimmer who is in his first season as a Graduate Assistant Coach with the Concordia University Irvine Swimming and Diving programs. Mescolote landed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2014 to begin his collegiate career at LSU under coach Steve Mellor, where he was multiple times an SEC finalist as well as school record holder in the 200-yard Medley Relay. A native from Presidente Prudente, Brazil, Mescolote first started his international journey in 2010, when he represented the Brazilian Junior National Team at the Junior South American Games in Lima, Peru. He was crowded South American champion in the 200-meter Freestyle Relay, as well as a bronze medalist in the 50-meter Freestyle. From 2010-2021, Mescolote was a 3-time qualifier for the Brazilian Olympic Trials meet (2012, 2016, 2021) as well as multiple-time national medalist and record holder in different age group categories and events.
